SEASONAL CHANGE

As we near the end of summer and the days get shorter, the shadows longer, we naturally start turning our attention to the home.

Pick up any magazine now and they will all be talking about the new trends. I believe that trends, whether fashion or interior, tend to be short-lived and, while it is good to be aware of what is going on, don’t become consumed by them. Individuality is the best ‘trend’ and never goes out of fashion! Reproduce a new look that is appropriate to you in your own unique way – reinterpretation is the key.

We have just completed a new layout of the shop and by simply wallpapering one wall we have completely changed the look and feel of the space. This is an easy and inexpensive way to interpret a trend; similarly creating a feature wall in a contrast paint colour to the rest of the room has the same effect.

I am a strong believer in re-utilising or re-purposing objects and furniture that we already own and sometimes just by repositioning one piece we can breathe new life into a room.

All the magazines are heralding green as the colour for this season. It is both calming and versatile; use wisely – there is no need to go totally green – use as a highlight or accent to bring freshness and new life to a space.
